                Our Sheep and Goats

                Lamb and Goat Availability

                Product and Price List

Sheep love grass and goats love browse! In fact they do best on these foods as that is what their stomachs were evolved to digest. The only grain we feed our sheep and goats is given to our pregnant and lactating ewes and does when they need additional protein, and very occasionally we use a little grain as a bribe (usually to convince an escapee that the grass really is just as green on the inside of the fence!).

Sheep on pasture

Other than this they get as much pasture or browse, sunshine and fresh air as they want and have free choice access to kelp, sea salt and minerals to supplement and balance their diets. They have shelter to provide shade in summer and and keep them warm and dry in the winter. Mind you, the sheep seem to love the winter and we have often come out on a cold winters evening to find the sheep quite happily asleep outside covered in a light blanket of snow!

Goats at work
The goats excel at brush and weed control and have been helping us to reclaim the overgrown fields around the house and barn that hadn't been farmed from over 30 years.

Availability:

Every locally raised food item has its natural time of abundance in the cycle of the seasons. For iamb and goat this is the fall and early winter, and this is the best time to get a whole or half animal. Due to the wonders of modern technology, retail cuts are generally available frozen most of the year.
